    Description

    Pictured for sale is a novel stoneware folk art vase or storage jar.  The container is overglazed
    in a light cream color
    & freehand decorated with dark tan abstract designs of birds & flowers
    (see Pics).  It is additionally highlighted with
    geometric designs below the rim, at the shoulder
    & at the base.  The container was freehand formed and has an unusual chubby, bulbous shape
    and form.  It measures 6 1/2" in height and 4 3/8" base diameter.  It is in excellent condition with
    a single shallow 1/2" flake on the underside footer.
    The container is incised by the female artist "KVETA MISKOWSKY  --  1935" on the underside.  Short, quick research
    noted the following;
    Kveta is a Czech first name derived from the Czech word "kvet" meaning flower or blossom.
    Kveta Miskowsky was the daughter of Charles & Anna Hillberger who resided in Riverside, Illinois.  She was born in approximately 1915 and attended the School of The Art Institute of Chicago.  Along with others she participated, contributed her works in a Benefit Auction in 02/12/42.  An interesting folk art find with great history.....
