Description
Macro algae is a great way to reduce nitrates and phosphates in saltwater aquariums. Often thought of as a plants, algae are actually part of the Protista Biological Kingdom. Unlike plants, they can survive without roots, as they absorb water and nutrients through their entire body.An excellent resource for marine hobbyists, not only making water clearer and coral brighter, but macro algae can also reduce, and eventually eliminate, the need for water changes altogether.
Codium, also known as Dead Man's Fingers, or Green Sea Fingers, is one of the hardiest and easiest macros to both care for and manage. It prefers medium waterflow and medium to strong lighting. This algae will turn a beautifully luminescent light green, with little fuzzy hairs when well lit. It can also survive with less light, but will in turn lack color. Codium should be glued to live rock or a coral plug, but when large enough, can sit freely on a sand bed or rubble. This purchase is for 1 of the fragments seen in the photos.
